Backups you can actually restore

A backup nobody has restored is a rumour. We restore on a schedule.

Every system has backups. Far fewer have backups anyone has restored recently. The gap between the two is where data loss lives.

Naasson Apps treats a restore as a routine event, not an emergency. Backups are taken on a schedule, and — more importantly — a restore is exercised on a schedule too, into a throwaway environment, so that “we have backups” is a tested claim and not a hopeful one.

When a real restore is needed, it follows a path that has already been walked many times. The worst moment to discover a backup is unreadable is the moment you need it; by then it should have been discovered months earlier, quietly, on a Tuesday.
